18 Month Check-Up...Over 2 Months Late!

Last Thursday I took McCoy to his 18 month appt. I kept telling myself to call and schedule, but it would just slip my mind! Anyways...better late than never!!!
I'm pretty sure the dr's exact words when she walked in were "Well, he's still tall and he still has a big head." No surprise there!
Here are his measurements:

Weight..... 28.95 lbs
Height...... 34.61 in.
Head circ. 20.28 in.

She said McCoy looked great and was right on track with everything, except for his verbal skills. He can say a few words (Daddy, Sophie (more like go-kie), Gigi, Mama, bye-bye, and uh oh, and some other things that I think he might have said, but I'm not quite sure). However, the dr. did mention that it was pretty typical for busy little boys, who never sit still, to be a little behind on talking. When we go back for his 2 year check-up, if he's not making progress, he will have to go to speech therapy for a little bit. Normally it only takes a couple of months to get most kids on schedule. We're really not too worried about it. You never know, he might wake up one day talking in full sentences...or maybe not! We'll wait and see!

I haven't really done an update about McCoy's milestones in a long time and I really want to do a good one once he's 2...which is way too soon, by the way!!! Here are just a few things I don't want to forget.

...His favorite foods are BANANAS!, sweet peas, cheese dip and chips, guacamole, Baked Lays, blueberry pancakes, yogurt, mandarin oranges...and so on and so forth. If you can't tell, he's a great eater!

...He loves to listen to music and dance! In the car, if I switch the radio to a new station, he'll get mad at me if he doesn't like the song I picked out. This makes it really difficult if I can't find any songs that he likes!!! His favorites are Black-eyed Peas-Boom Boom Pow, All American Rejects, and Britney Spears-Circus. He can dance the best to these! Unfortunately, Daddy is not too fond of McCoy's musical taste...

...His favorite toy is a bat, golf club, or ball. You could give him these things and he would be entertained for hours! He also likes anything he can turn into a bat, golf club, or ball...that makes me a little nervous!

...He loves Elmo DVDs, books, and toys, but he doesn't like interactive Elmos (like Elmo LIVE or the laughing one) or stuffed Elmo's. We have an Elmo LIVE that he got for Christmas and he will stand on the opposite side of the couch or across the room and listen to his stories but he does not want to be near him. Also, we were at a friend's house and they have the one that falls over laughing and he actually ran from the room screaming! However, on long car rides, he gets entranced by the Elmo DVDs and some of his favorite books and toys are about Elmo.

...He is attached to a turquoise and orange blankie and a pillow that used to be mine. For a long time, I didn't think he would be attached to anything and I would have preferred that it be one of those silkies. But he likes this big blanket that looks like it's never been washed now and the pillow that used to be mine that we had him sleep on when he was a baby.

...He loves to do the hokey pokey! His favorite part is to stick his nose in and shake it all about! When he does it, everyone else has to, too! He is also great with the motions of "itsy bitsy spider".

...A very recent thing is that if he wants you to come with him or do something for him, he just pulls your hand and you better be ready to go!

...He could stay outside all day long, no matter how hot it is! He loves it! We play golf, t-ball, climb on his swingset, play catch, pull his wagon or play fetch with Sophie.

This really is such a fun age! We have been having a great summer spending lots of time outside and at the pool! I just can't believe that he's growing up so fast and will be 2 before we know it!!!

Newport Golf Tournament

Last weekend, we went to Newport for a golf tournament that Kirk plays in every year. We always love going for this tournament because lots of our family comes to hang out! This is McCoy's 2nd year to go and he got to meet even more people than he normally does. We also have a couple of new members that McCoy thought were so much fun!
Thursday night, McCoy got to meet one of his new cousins, Clayton. He is about 3 1/2 months old. We've looked at pictures of him on his blog, but were so excited to meet him in person. I've said before that McCoy LOVES babies so he was dying to get his hands on Clayton! He's not really verbalizing yet (mainly with grunts and screams), but he grabbed my mom's hand, motioned for her to pick up Clayton, went and sat on the couch, and then patted his lap and held his hands up. It was so cute and definitely got the point across! I'm not sure Clayton was as excited as McCoy was about it, though! I can't wait to see these two in action next year!

McCoy and Clayton
Saturday night he met another new cousin, Taryn. She's about six months younger than McCoy and definitely all girl! McCoy kept pulling her hand wanting her to play with him, so I think she was probably ready to go home at he end of the night! At one point he brought her over to me with a book and had me pick them both up to read a story.

McCoy and Taryn
McCoy had lots of fun visiting Newport and spending lots of time with his Nanny and Aunt ReeRee! His favorite thing to do at Nanny's house was to go on our back deck and listen to music. Everybody else had to come out too, of course, and dance along.

"Quit taking pictures and dance!"

He also had fun playing catch in the backyard with Cissy,

"Over here, I'm open!"
riding in the golf cart...

"What time do we tee off?"
eating Mexican food....

"Newport's mexican restaurant gets a thumbs up from me!!"

and playing with his diapers...

"What? Did I put it on wrong??"

After a big weekend of hanging out with family and golfing, McCoy was worn out! He has been taking great naps ever since we got back!

"Is it bed time yet??"

We had such a great weekend and can't wait for next year's tournament!

Rodeo of the Ozarks

Every year, McCoy's MeMe and Dig get tickets for the whole family to go to the rodeo. This year we went on Friday night and it was McCoy's second time. He absolutely loved it! He was all decked out in cowboy gear and looked adorable...or handsome! It took him a little bit to get used to the boots and was still walking a little funny at the end of the night but he stuck it out. He also had a few little incidents of falling down which ended with a booboo on his head, but he didn't let it phase him.
He loved watching all the horses and he thought it was so funny when we all got splattered with a mud "mixture" (I won't talk about what the "mixture" was). I guess that's what should be expected when we get front row seats! However, we defintely didn't skip bathtime that night!
He loved watching the bullriders...

"Here they come, out of the chute!"

"Oh no, is he going to be ok??"

"Yeah, he's up!"

He also had lots of fun playing with Owen and Anna Grace. He does a great job of keeping up with them.

My attempt at a group pic...

We had so much fun and can't wait for next year! Thanks for taking us MeMe and Dig!

****I still have more pics that I want to put up here but blogger is not letting me load them. I'll try again later!
