18 Month Check-Up...Over 2 Months Late!

Last Thursday I took McCoy to his 18 month appt. I kept telling myself to call and schedule, but it would just slip my mind! Anyways...better late than never!!!
I'm pretty sure the dr's exact words when she walked in were "Well, he's still tall and he still has a big head." No surprise there!
Here are his measurements:

Weight..... 28.95 lbs
Height...... 34.61 in.
Head circ. 20.28 in.

She said McCoy looked great and was right on track with everything, except for his verbal skills. He can say a few words (Daddy, Sophie (more like go-kie), Gigi, Mama, bye-bye, and uh oh, and some other things that I think he might have said, but I'm not quite sure). However, the dr. did mention that it was pretty typical for busy little boys, who never sit still, to be a little behind on talking. When we go back for his 2 year check-up, if he's not making progress, he will have to go to speech therapy for a little bit. Normally it only takes a couple of months to get most kids on schedule. We're really not too worried about it. You never know, he might wake up one day talking in full sentences...or maybe not! We'll wait and see!

I haven't really done an update about McCoy's milestones in a long time and I really want to do a good one once he's 2...which is way too soon, by the way!!! Here are just a few things I don't want to forget.

...His favorite foods are BANANAS!, sweet peas, cheese dip and chips, guacamole, Baked Lays, blueberry pancakes, yogurt, mandarin oranges...and so on and so forth. If you can't tell, he's a great eater!

...He loves to listen to music and dance! In the car, if I switch the radio to a new station, he'll get mad at me if he doesn't like the song I picked out. This makes it really difficult if I can't find any songs that he likes!!! His favorites are Black-eyed Peas-Boom Boom Pow, All American Rejects, and Britney Spears-Circus. He can dance the best to these! Unfortunately, Daddy is not too fond of McCoy's musical taste...

...His favorite toy is a bat, golf club, or ball. You could give him these things and he would be entertained for hours! He also likes anything he can turn into a bat, golf club, or ball...that makes me a little nervous!

...He loves Elmo DVDs, books, and toys, but he doesn't like interactive Elmos (like Elmo LIVE or the laughing one) or stuffed Elmo's. We have an Elmo LIVE that he got for Christmas and he will stand on the opposite side of the couch or across the room and listen to his stories but he does not want to be near him. Also, we were at a friend's house and they have the one that falls over laughing and he actually ran from the room screaming! However, on long car rides, he gets entranced by the Elmo DVDs and some of his favorite books and toys are about Elmo.

...He is attached to a turquoise and orange blankie and a pillow that used to be mine. For a long time, I didn't think he would be attached to anything and I would have preferred that it be one of those silkies. But he likes this big blanket that looks like it's never been washed now and the pillow that used to be mine that we had him sleep on when he was a baby.

...He loves to do the hokey pokey! His favorite part is to stick his nose in and shake it all about! When he does it, everyone else has to, too! He is also great with the motions of "itsy bitsy spider".

...A very recent thing is that if he wants you to come with him or do something for him, he just pulls your hand and you better be ready to go!

...He could stay outside all day long, no matter how hot it is! He loves it! We play golf, t-ball, climb on his swingset, play catch, pull his wagon or play fetch with Sophie.

This really is such a fun age! We have been having a great summer spending lots of time outside and at the pool! I just can't believe that he's growing up so fast and will be 2 before we know it!!!

Boys are so much FUN! Tayson's didn't say much for a long time. It was like overnight though, he learned all of these new words. It really happened that fast. It was the same way with sentences. He was saying only individual words and then one day, he just started talking in little sentences. I agree with your dr. though, active boys have much better things to be doing, then worrying about talking. Also, I think because Tayson was our only one then and was (a little) spoiled :) we were always just catering to what he wanted, or what we thought he wanted, and he never really had to ask for anything.

It is so funny how they turn everything into a club or bat! Does McCoy love his new swingset? We have been looking at them for Tayson and we just haven't decided yet which one to get. I can't decide if we need one with all of the little bells and whistles or just a simple one that has a slide, swing, and little play house?? Decisions, decisions....
