Potty Training...Post #1

We have started potty training! So far, pull-ups and big boy underwear have been bought, but there has been no actual usage of the potty. He will sometimes tell us when he has gone "pee-pee", but only after the fact...I guess that's a start. I named this post #1 because I have a feeling there will be several posts about this topic.

My main reason for blogging about it is that I would LOVE some tips from anyone who has potty-trained an active little boy who doesn't mind being wet or dirty. If you have no tips, just stay tuned and enjoy the interesting and messy posts that are sure to come!!

Andrew is about 85% potty trained, and it was relativly easy, but I cannot take the credit for it really. At school the kids in his class were potty training and they made a chart and got stickers and a jelly bean when they went. He thought this was great and wanted to be a part of it too. I made a potty chart and got rewards for our house, but he infomed me that he did not like my potty chart and refused to use the potty. He also never used the potty chair, because he needed to take it apart and play with it. I just gave up and thought he would decide to do it when he was ready and that's how it worked. The best help of all was our vacation. The public restrooms were a hit (mind you, I still cringe at the thought of sitting on a public toilet seat) he liked choosing which potty and the automatic flush. He never had an accident on the trip! Now he is doing great, but I can't put him in underware full time yet, because he is so active and there are times when he is just too busy to go! So, the moral of my story, I think with active boys just giving them the opportunity and making it fun is the best option, all the while remembering that they just get busy sometimes and forget...I saw that in my kindergarten class a lot too. Oh, and Andrew also prefers going pee-pee like Daddy. He thinks it's what the big boys do! Good Luck!

Oh girll! It's been a long time since I've potty trained a boy! With Lydia we were home for a few days bc of the snow and ice and I just put her in a dress with no panties. She was standing in the living room and suddenly her eyes got big and she ran to the bathroom. It clicked :). I had been putting her on the potty before bathtime for a while just to get her used to it. My boys took longer and they were older. My nephew did it fast and early so you just never know. Good luck!!!
