Potty Training...Post #3

Too cool for potty-training

I am so excited to say that McCoy has been doing GREAT with his potty training...as long as we're only talking about pee-pee! Which, we are for now, so don't even try to think about poo-poo yet ;)

The past few weeks McCoy has amazed Kirk and me with how well is he doing. He is now wearing big boy underwear unless it's naptime or nighttime. He has only had a few pee-pee accidents in the past 3 weeks. I could probably count the amount of accidents on one hand! Everyone kept telling me that potty training would change my life forever and I didn't really understand what that meant...now I do. When we leave the house these days, our potty comes with us! That's right and I'm not even embarrassed about it. McCoy has gone pee-pee in parking lots all over NWA; Target, Wal-Mart, a mexican restaurant and many others. The only small problem we have is that when he decides he's bored at a restaurant, he says he needs to go pee-pee. So, out we go to the potty and nothing happens. We head back inside and about 5 minutes later, he has to go again. Still nothing. However, we take him everytime because we've said "no" before and he had an accident. I felt awful because it was totally our fault!

Another change in our life is that I'm constantly asking him if he needs to go or watching him for signs. I've actually had to abandon my cart in a check-out line to take him to the bathroom. People are very understanding, especially mamas, so it's no big deal.

It is so funny how excited Kirk and I get when he does go potty. Since we're excited, McCoy gets really excited too and starts asking for his treat. Sometimes I wonder if he'll be 16 and I'll still be giving him treats after he goes potty... I know, I know. I realize that eventually it won't be as exciting, but I just love how proud of himself he is!

Celebrating a pee-pee!!

Now...on to the dreaded topic that is poo-poo... I mentioned that he still wears pull-ups for his naps and bedtime. So, normally I can go in his room about 10 minutes after I've laid him down for a nap and know that he's been holding it and waiting for that moment. However, if he needs to go while he's in his big boy underwear, he will hide from me. A lot of times he will leave the room or go behind the table where I can't get to him in time. If I do get to him in time and put him on the potty real fast, I have to hold him down while he goes or he will try to jump up. I've heard this is pretty typical with boys so I'm not really stressing too much about it. However, I would LOVE tips and suggestions!

Even though we have this little poo-poo issue, we're still thrilled with his progress! I can't believe he's getting to be such a big boy. I am so proud of him but he's growing up way too fast and it's breaking my heart!!
