Diaper Rash Drama

Yesterday I'm changing McCoy's diaper and start noticing how red his little bottom looks. Then I realize it's not just red, it's got bumps so that can only mean one thing...diaper rash! McCoy must've realized that I was starting to feel really sorry for him because he immediately started bawling. So I get out the diaper rash cream, lather him up, and then we go call Daddy. I tell him what's going on (just so he knows what me and McCoy are up to during the day) and we hang up. He calls back 5 minutes later to tell me that he's researched it and I should let him lay on his blanket and play naked to let it air out.
So here's what Wednesday's play time looked like...

Poor little booty!

There were a few little accidents on the blanket but nothing that couldn't be washed out!

It's still red today but he hasn't cried anymore when he's getting his diaper changed. We've been making sure to keep lots of cream on it. Kirk has been reminding me to do that everytime I talk to him!!

Today McCoy made a new friend! Our dog, Sophie! Sophie comes near McCoy sometimes but just to sniff or give a quick lick and then, move on. But today she decided to bring her bone over and lay down with him while he played. So cute!

"Sophie, you chew your bone and I'll chew my hand!"

"Sophie's fun!"

We also tried some more rice cereal tonight. He'll acquire a taste eventually...

Hey Rachel! I just recently found your blog through Katie and Amy's. I just wanted to comment and say that McCoy is precious and I love his name! I don't know what kind of diaper cream you use, but we have always used Burt's Bees Diaper Ointment and it works wonderfully!! Usually if I use that, the diaper rash is gone by the next day! I have also heard that if you sprinkle a little bit of corn starch and take their diaper off for awhile, that it will heal quickly (never tried that though?)!! I hope he gets better soon!!

Hey! The red bumps mean it's a "yeast infection diaper rash." They sometimes pop up after or during antibiotics. Jordan got a lot of them when she had her many o ear infections with many o antibiotics. Try giving him some yogurt or putting some vagisil on it, they are harder to get rid of than normal diaper rashes and one time we had to get a prescription for it..but anyway, that's my two cents, for what it's worth! I hope he feels better soon!

Have you seen the leg warmers at Target to put on your baby when they have diaper rash? it lets them keep warm while "airing" out! I bought Harry some with skulls on them, they are too small; I will bring them by for future booty chap!

I love that Kirk researched the rash for you - what a good dad! :-)
It's so cute the McCoy and Sophie are becoming friends!

Sophie and McCoy are quite a pair! So cute! Kirk gets a daddy award for researching diaper rash! Good job!

McCoy is just too cute! I've also heard that the Burt's Bees Diaper Ointment is great. There is something that Collier's mixes up and I've heard that it takes care of it the same day! Like Brandy's daughter, Zayde would not eat the rice cereal- only oatmeal. Hope his little booty gets better soon!

We've been battling the icky rash, too! That red bottom breaks my heart! I've heard of the Collier's paste, and my mom said to try corn starch, too. We were able to beat it with plain ol' cream, but I'm keeping those in my file for later. We did the naked playtime, too, and aside from being a little cool, Addison seemed to like it, and I think it helped! Whether it works or not, you've got some great naked baby pictures now! =)
